Chevrolet Invests $5 Billion into New Vehicle Development - 07/29/2015

Chevrolet Invests $5 Billion into New Vehicle Development
    © Copyright General Motors

DURAND, Mich.– Since its inception, the auto industry has been in perpetual motion to accommodate the influx of new technology and changes in consumer preferences. General Motors brands have always adjusted well to these demands, and the latest example is how Chevrolet will invest $5 billion into new vehicle development for global growth markets. It's a step GM and Chevy will take to stay ahead of the curve, so to speak, and ensure consumers in these markets that Chevy is the brand they can rely on for design, technology and performance.

Chevy will develop an entirely new vehicle family for these markets that will take the place of multiple current vehicles. Chevy anticipates the new vehicle family will sharpen its competitive edge and increase profitability.

Along with Chevrolet investing $5 billion into new vehicle development, GM will deepen its partnership with SAIC Motor and the two will collaborate on the new vehicle family’s core architecture and engine design. The closer relationship will add to GM’s architecture consolidation plan, and save them money in development and total vehicle costs.

By using a team of multinational designers, the new Chevy vehicle family will be extremely comprehensive in its market appeal. In short, the vehicles will be very cosmopolitan with rich influences from a variety of cultures and interests deriving from multiple nationalities.

Chevy plans to manufacture and sell the vehicles in Brazil, China, India and Mexico, and export to several other growth markets. However, you won’t see these vehicles anywhere in the United States, which is already a mature market and has no need for a completely new vehicle family.

But don’t feel left out– consider all of the New Chevy Carsand New Chevy Trucks you have to choose from in each model year! We promise you, the Chevy vehicles available at our Corunna area Chevrolet dealer are the best offerings from the automaker.

Rumored 2016 Chevy Camaro Release Date - 07/24/2015

Rumored 2016 Chevy Camaro Release Date
    © Copyright General Motors

DURAND, Mich.– Despite the general excitement surrounding a slew of new 2016 model year vehicle releases from nearly every major automaker, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro has stolen the spotlight from competitors and other vehicle classes alike.

Now, the spotlight is brighter than ever since an unnamed insider from Chevy recently disclosed a rumored 2016 Chevy Camaro release dateof August 13, although General Motors hasn’t corroborated the claim or denied it. At the Camaro’s unveiling in Detroit last May, Chevy divulged plans to begin 2016 Camaro production in Lansing, MI, this August, so an earlier-than-expected release date, at least for pre-orders, could be very possible.

Since the inaugural Camaro’s 1966 debut, many have claimed Chevy’s pony car has struggled in the shadow of the Ford Mustang. But to understand how superior the Camaro is to the Mustang and other competitors, you only need to consult the sales numbers that show the Camaro has outsold the Mustang since 2010.

How do you get better sales than your competition? Through better design, better technology and better performance. No wonder so many enthusiasts are awaiting a confirmation of the rumored 2016 Chevy Camaro release date– people want this car!

While you can’t wholly rely on the words of one unnamed insider, it’s true that rumors like these usually point towards a reality. We suggest that you keep your eyes peeled and expect Chevy to come out with an official release date sometime in the near future. We can’t wait to add the next-generation Camaro to our inventory of New Chevy Cars and New Chevy Trucks at our Clio Chevrolet dealer!

New Chevy Crossover Coming in 2017 - 07/22/2015

    © Copyright General Motors

DURAND, Mich.– If you haven’t heard yet, there’s a new Chevy crossover coming in 2017, and it will replace your beloved Equinox. But don’t worry, the Equinox isn’t disappearing, it’s just being downsized. That’s right, the 2017 Equinox will be smaller and Chevy’s new 2017 crossover will fit comfortably between the it and the Traverse, Chevy’s largest crossover.

This new plan will broaden Chevy’s crossover options for customers, giving you the choice between the extra small Trax, the Equinox, the new crossover, and the Traverse, making Chevy and Nissan the only automakers to offer four classes in the crossover segment.

Adding a new crossover will give you the option to stick with a crossover the size of the current Equinox, or go with a vehicle slightly smaller with the 2017 Equinox. This will give you more freedom of choice with Chevy, compared to its competitors, such as Ford, who still offer only three crossover options.

We know you’re waiting for some concept images and a name, but nothing has been released for the new Chevy crossover coming in 2017 other than the automaker’s plans to fit it between the Equinox and Traverse.

Something to note is that the 2017 crossover’s presence will be felt across the board at General Motors, as it will also be a base for the Cadillac XT5, slated to replace the SRX next spring, and the new GMC Acadia, which will downsize in 2016.

Downsizing the Equinox and fitting a new crossover between it and the Traverse will give Chevy two 2-row and two 3-row crossovers. Count on the new 2017 Chevy crossover looking just as good as the automaker’s other crossovers. Until then, come browse the inventory of New Chevy Cars and New Chevy Trucks at our Corunna area Chevy dealership!

New Chevrolet Silverado Ads Poke Fun at the Aluminum Ford F-150 - 07/09/2015

New Chevrolet Silverado Ads Poke Fun at the Aluminum Ford F-150
    © Copyright General Motors
DURAND, Mich.– The American economy is ruled by competition, and the auto industry is one facet of the market that is chock full of it, which is why Ford shouldn’t get too upset as the new Chevrolet Silverado ads poke fun at the aluminum Ford F-150– it’s just an extension of their healthy rivalry!

In all seriousness, Ford’s aluminum body idea sounds good in theory, but wouldn’t you feel safer driving a machine made of aluminum’s stronger older brother, Steel? If you think like us, you’d go with the 2015 Chevy Silverado made of steel over the 2015 Ford F-150 made of aluminum, and Chevy did a great job of representing the differences between these two designs through two hilarious ads that appeared online.

The first ad shows real people in materials testing facility where they are asked to examine the durability of two cages, one made of steel and the other of aluminum. After briefly analyzing and comparing the strength of the cages to each other, a 700-pound grizzly bear is released into the facility and the participants are told they’d better pick a cage for protection. Can you guess which cage they chose before being shown a 2015 Chevy Silverado built with steel?

The second ad is more lighthearted, but still gets to the core of the aluminum design issue. Chevy had a handful of comic book fanatics come out to give their opinions on a superhero named Almighty Aluminum Man that they created for a hypothetical movie. It’s a huge joke Chevy uses to allude to Ford’s aluminum truck design, and the comic book lovers don’t hold back their criticism of Almighty Aluminum Man’s weak aluminum design either.

The new Chevrolet Silverado ads poke fun at the aluminum Ford F-150 not because Chevy wants to be the mean neighborhood bully, but because they want you to drive a durable, high strength steel vehicle that will keep you safe on the road. We feel the same way, and that’s why you can get non-aluminum vehicles like New Chevy Trucks and New Chevy Cars at our Clio Area Chevrolet Dealer! Of course, if you’re looking for something made of high strength steel, we feel obligated to mention the 2015 Chevy Silverado is the way to go!

DURAND, Mich.– America has quite an affinity for cars, and many of the country’s fanatics would agree that one particular American classic will never cease as a force to be reckoned with: the Chevrolet Corvette. In celebration of this monumental automobile that first rolled off the assembly line on June 30, 1953, we wanted to take a look at the story of the first Chevrolet Corvette.

A Chevrolet plant in Flint, MI, first began assembling the two-seater 1953 Corvette on June 28, 1953, as one only 300 produced that year. Two days later the first production Corvette entered the automotive pool, and today we’re still seeing ripples from its impact.

The idea for the Corvette emerged in 1951 after a General Motors designer named Harley J. Earl came up with the idea to produce an affordable American sports car that could compete with European monoliths such as MG, Jaguar and Ferrari.

Chevrolet began the story of the first Chevrolet Corvette when they debuted a concept model in January of 1953 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City, where the fiberglass-body, six-cylinder performer piqued the interest of everyone in attendance.

Many wondered where the name “Corvette” originated. According to GM, the name drew influence from a “trim, fleet naval vessel that performed heroic escort and patrol duties during World War II.”

Like its name, the first Corvette was one flashy son-of-an-automobile with its Polo White exterior and red interior, two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, a wraparound windshield, whitewall tires and removable plastic curtains in lieu of windows.

Unprecedented innovation also bolstered the 1953 Corvette as America’s new sports car, including features like a clock, cigarette lighter and red warning light that turned on when a driver applied the parking brake. While the 1953 Corvette only showed average speed performance, going from zero to 60 mph in 11 or 12 seconds, its unique style and features helped value it at $3,490.

Story of the First Chevrolet Corvette

Despite the Corvette's popularity today, it struggled to gain recognition from the automotive world during the first 2 years of its life. To the chagrin of GM and Chevrolet, the 1953 Corvette got some curious glances but failed to steal the hearts of American motorists.

By 1954 when Chevrolet began mass production of the car at one of their plants in St. Louis, MO, the Corvette’s ho-hum start in the automotive world was still spiraling downward and GM considered abandoning production for good. That is, until a certain rival automotive manufacturer named Ford Motor Company introduced their two-seater Thunderbird.

This competitive threat pushed GM to improve the Corvette. In 1955 they stuck a V-8 engine underneath the Corvette’s hood and never looked back. From then on the Corvette garnered the nickname “America’s sports car” and steadily became an American pop culture symbol continually referenced in media.

The Corvette’s impressive history and its comeback story are an example of what it took for Chevrolet to become the automaker it is today. Chevy’s drive, passion and the guts to do what others haven’t are what make us proud to sell New Chevy Cars and New Chevy Trucks at our Flint Area Chevy Dealership. Stop in sometime and see for yourself!

2016 Chevy Cruze Changes the World - 06/24/2015

2016 Chevy Cruze Changes the World

DURAND, Mich.– For thousands of years humans have developed languages to communicate, but the 21st century has brought us into an age of using new symbols called emojis that can somewhat accurately convey thoughts and feelings.

On Monday, Chevy put out a press release hinting at news on the 2016 Cruze– transcribed completely in emojis. We had some trouble figuring out the symbolism, so we took the easy way out and waited for Chevy to tell us what all of the smileys and hearts meant.

Spoiler alert: If you wan to decipher the emoji press release yourself, stop reading now!

The gist of it is this: The 2016 Chevy Cruze changes the world after debuting June 24, 2015, at 7 p.m., at the Fillmore Theater in Detroit, and the new model has a list of updated features covering technology, design and efficiency to prove it.

The 2016 Cruze is sporty and smart, with an athletic design and technology to uphold 7 connected devices, 4G LTE Wi-Fi and, as the first in its class, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It’s also an efficient vehicle with an EPA-estimate 35 mpg highway, and a safe vehicle with 10 air bags and standard OnStar available for 6 months to keep a driver and 4 passengers safe.

The 2016 Chevy Cruze changed the world after revealing itself at the Fillmore Theater in Detroit, but for now all we can do is admire from afar– the new Cruze won’t hit global markets until spring 2016. Until then, take a stab at deciphering the emoji press release, even though you already know the news! Check your what you come up with against Chevy's deciphered version here.

If you can’t wait until next spring to get your hands on the new Cruze, consider going with one of the current New Chevy Cars or New Chevy Trucks at our Chevy Dealership Serving Genesee County, MI! You won’t be disappointed behind the wheel of a Chevy.

DURAND, Mich.– Vehicle City, Bedrock, Flint Town, the 810– each moniker gives a brief glimpse of the myriad cultures that fill the city limits of Flint, MI. Many people would consider this bastion of 20th century American industrial progress– the birthplace of General Motors, in fact– to be a once-great city. We’re here to show you why Flint is still a great city connected to all of the assets and intrigue that accommodate other cities, and you can experience all of it with these 5 things for families to do in Flint this summer:

    Huckleberry Railroad
The Huckleberry Railroad began in 1857 and might be the most famous staple of Flint. The railroad line was named as such due to its reputation for chugging along at a rather slow pace– a person could jump off the train, pick some huckleberries and get back on with ease. Over a century later, you and your family can experience history and take a scenic 40-minute train ride on the Huckleberry Railroad along the shores of Mott Lake, down to the Pere Marquette roadbed and into historic Crossroads Village.

5 Things for Families to Do in Flint this Summer

Wait, Flint has a museum district? They certainly do, and if you haven’t visited yet you’re missing out on a variety of cultural experiences. Take the kids to see on of the engaging exhibits at the Flint Children’s Museum, feast your eyes on the many collections at the Flint Institute of Arts, learn about the auto industry at the Sloan Museum or see the stars at the Longway Planetarium.

Are you an architecture buff, or looking to get a taste of the city? Head downtown and observe the variety of classic architecture, from Greek Revival to 19th Century Gothic buildings whose craftsmanship will immediately gain your respect. After feeding your artistic appreciation, get some food in your belly at one of the many restaurants along Saginaw St.

5 Things for Families to Do in Flint this Summer

After you’ve had your fun downtown, walk off your meal with a stroll on the Flint River Trail that begins near downtown at the University of Michigan-Flint campus and continues for miles. We don’t recommend walking the entire length!

5 Things for Families to Do in Flint this Summer

    The Whiting
After a long day of exploring and experiencing, relax in a cozy theater seat while you enjoy a play, musical or concert at The Whiting, Flint’s 2,043-seat theater near downtown. Past performances include Chris Isaak, Bill Cosby, STOMP, Rock of Ages and a multitude of other entertaining performances.

5 Things for Families to Do in Flint this Summer

Contrary to what many believe, there really are a number of fun things to do in this historic Michigan city just 66 miles northwest of Detroit. These 5 things for families to do in Flint this summer are just the beginning. Do some digging yourself and see what else Flint has to offer! Recycled Chevy Volt Batteries Help Power Facilities - 06/17/2015

Recycled Chevy Volt Batteries Help Power Facilities

DURAND, Mich.– As a result of Chevy's innovative spirit, recycled Chevy Volt batteries help power facilities such as the GM Enterprise Data Center at its Milford Proving Ground, the newest GM IT building.

In conjunction with a 74-killowatt ground-mount solar array and two 2kW wind turbines, five used Chevy Volt batteries help generate 100Mwh annually for the new IT building, which is an amount equal to the energy usage of 12 households.

This isn’t the first time Chevy has taken a step in a greener direction. Volt batteries that are no longer useful under the hood have also been repurposed as bat houses and nesting boxes for endangered duck species.

So how do recycled Chevy Volt batteries help power facilities like the new IT building? The Volt usually gets power from a band of energy in the battery pack and leaves behind plenty of juice for stationary use. The leftover juice alone isn’t very useful to a Volt, but it can provide plenty of beneficial energy to a building.

Repurposed Volt batteries are also sustainable, as they can store unneeded energy and send excess energy back to a grid that supplies the Milford campus. The batteries also provide backup energy to the IT building in the case of a power outage.

Chevy’s innovative nature has propelled it to a level of environmental awareness that most other automakers have yet to reach. Taking charge of their energy usage and finding a creative way to mitigate wastefulness has earned the new IT building the LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Hopefully other automakers find similar ways to cut down on energy usage through innovative decisions like Chevy’s. But when it comes to going green, it’s unlikely that any other automaker will surpass the achievements Chevy has made. All you have to do is take a look at the energy efficiency of the New Chevy Cars and New Chevy Trucks at your Genesee County Area Chevrolet Dealer to see what we mean!

    2017 Chevy Bolt Spotted - 06/12/2015

    2017 Chevy Bolt Spotted

DURAND, Mich.– It’s not everyday that someone’s camera captures a crisp image of lightning, but the images of the 2017 Chevy Bolt spotted in a test-drive are electric.

The 2017 Chevy Bolt spotted was donning black and white camouflage that automakers typically use to disguise their prototypes. Regardless of the camouflage, the vehicle’s shape and creases stand out and ensure that the new EV will be just as stylish as Chevy’s other models.

    2017 Chevy Bolt Spotted

Aside from its assumed looks, what makes the 2017 Bolt so intriguing is the astonishing claim that the EV can endure 200 miles on one electric charge. How exactly the hatchback is capable of such distance as an EV is uncertain, but we’re expecting to see something marvelous under the hood once Chevy brings the 2017 Bolt to market, as you can tell in this video:

By keeping the cost of purchase down at $30,000, Chevy plans to broaden its EV consumer segment with the 2017 Bolt, which will be manufactured at General Motors’ factory in Lake Orion, Mich. That’s not a bad price considering the technology behind the 2017 Bolt! There’s a reason why people love buying vehicles from Chevy. The 2017 Bolt is one example, but the New Chevy Cars and New Chevy Trucks at our New Lothrup Area Chevy Dealership also explain why.

Chevy Cruze Sales Pass 3.5 Million - 06/10/2015

Chevy Cruze Sales Pass 3.5 Million

DURAND, Mich.– Regarding customer trust and loyalty, the numbers do all the talking for Chevrolet. As Chevy Cruze sales pass 3.5 million, the rest of the automotive industry is left gazing in amazement across the aisle.

As Chevy’s top-selling vehicle, the Cruze recently achieved this new benchmark in sales across 115 countries. Its top markets include China, the United States, Brazil and Canada, but the Cruze did exceptionally well in its home country.

When Chevy Cruze sales pass 3.5 million, you can bet there has been an increase in sales. In 2014, Cruze sales in the United Sates shot up 10 percent from the previous year to 273,060, placing the Cruze at second-best in sales to customers under 25 in the United States. Cruze sales also showed a 35 percent increase in new Chevy customers and a 56 percent Chevy customer retention rate, while 23 percent of customers traded in their current Cruze for a new one.

These impressive numbers make way for the upcoming 2016 Chevy Cruze that will debut on June 24. The bar is set high for the next generation Cruze, but Chevy seems to be confident in their spectrum of new model features. To give you a glimpse, the 2016 Cruze is larger and lighter than the current model, and happens to be armed with 25 new technologies, two of which include the touted Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

If the Chevy Cruze sales numbers and expected updates aren’t enough to woo you, perhaps it’s time to do a little extra research on the reliability of Chevrolet’s other vehicles. Our inventory of New Chevy Cars and New Chevy Trucks at our Genesee County Area Chevy Dealership is the perfect place to begin.

Road Trip Maintenance Tips - 06/03/2015

    Road Trip Maintenance Tips

DURAND, Mich.– It’s almost summertime, a season when many families set out on a classic road trip to explore America. If you’re planning a road trip for your family, you’ll want to include certain items for your journey like snacks and an emergency kit. But it’s also important that your vehicle is fit for the long distances it will be transporting you to. On that note, here are some road trip maintenance tips to keep in mind before you hit the road:

Get your air conditioning recharged. If you notice that your vehicle isn’t cooling down as efficiently as it should, stop in to get your A/C recharged before you’re two states over with all of the windows down trying to avoid heat stroke.

Make sure your battery is fully functional. This is one most people don’t think about until it’s too late. Avoid breaking down in the middle of the night on a dark highway and make sure your battery functions correctly. Assuming your vehicle still starts, look for these signs of a dying battery:

    • Lights are weak/dim when engine cranks
    • Engine has trouble starting
    • Engine cranks slowly

Have a technician inspect your brakes. Don’t fool yourself into thinking your brakes are good-to-go just because you’re stopping. You should get them checked every 10,000 miles, and especially before you travel long distances. Look for these signs to tell if your brakes are unsafe:

    • Grinding/high-pitched squealing noises when stopping
    • Steering wheel vibration when braking
    • Increased braking distances
    • Feeling the car pull left or right when stopping
    • A burning smell when stopping
    • A weak emergency brake

Keep your tires properly inflated and rotated. You should have your tires rotated every 3,000 to 7,000 miles or as recommended by your Vehicle Owner’s Manual. Along with regular rotation, your tires should never be under-inflated or over-inflated. You should also keep an eye out for tread loss or bald spots on your tires.

Get a good view with new wiper blades. It’s time to replace your wiper blades if they leave streaks on your windshield, don’t clear it completely or seem to be cracking and peeling. The last thing you want is for everything else on your vehicle to be in good working order, but then suddenly be forced to pull over when it starts raining because you can’t see out your windshield.

When it comes down to it, your safest option will always be to stop in at a vehicle service center where professionals can determine the quality of your vehicle, but these road trip maintenance tips are definitely major things to think about while you plan your journey this summer.

Our vehicle service technicians are some of the best, and would be happy to take a look for you. Schedule a vehicle service appointment online or call (989) 288-2657 and get a thumbs-up from us before heading out! 2016 Camaro will be Manufactured in Lansing - 06/02/2015

2016 Camaro will be Manufactured in Lansing

DURAND, Mich.– We all need to give America’s best-selling performance car for the last five years a big welcome home. The word is out that the 2016 Camaro will be manufactured in Lansing! After 23 years, Chevy’s pride and joy is coming back to the state where the auto industry’s gears first started turning.

While it’s big news that the Camaro will be back in the state where the auto industry began, it’s even bigger news that the 2016 Camaro will be manufactured in Lansing at the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant. The decision to manufacture the 2016 Camaro here will immediately establish hundreds of jobs for Lansing, and Chevy expects to add 500 more by the end of summer!

Chevy will invest $175 million into the plant to fund new tooling and equipment. Two robotic framers will be installed to improve dimensional control in the manufacturing process, along with three new paint systems used for colors specific to the 2016 Camaro– Summit White, Bright Yellow and Red Hot.

In our opinion, there’s no better place for the 2016 Camaro to be manufactured than our state capital. We love seeing Chevy improve our state’s economy through new jobs! That’s why we’re proud of our inventory of New Chevy Cars and New Chevy Trucks at our Genesee County Area Dealership

Gen Six Chevrolet Camaro Sets New Performance Standards - 05/19/2015

Gen Six Chevrolet Camaro Sets New Performance Standards

DURAND, Mich. – If you hadn’t heard yet, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro made its big debut this past Saturday at Belle Isle Park in Detroit. In honor of this important moment for Chevy and Camaro fans around the world, we thought we’d share a quick look into what makes the sixth generation Camaro so astonishing.

Exceeding benchmarks established by earlier Camaro generations and their competitors, the Gen Six Chevrolet Camaro sets new performance standards with unprecedented speed improvements, easy handling, a lighter and sleeker design, and SIX different powertrain options, including the 2.0L Turbo!

Strictly talking performance, the 2016 Camaro’s 2.0L Turbo is SAE-certified at 275 horsepower! Plus, after dropping 200 pounds of excess weight, you’re looking at an agile vehicle able to reach high speeds while also delivering easy handling. Hold onto your hats because this Gen Six option shoots from 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds, and is still capable of 30 mpg on the highway!

Gen Six Chevrolet Camaro Sets New Performance Standards
It only gets better from there. The Gen Six Chevrolet Camaro sets new performance standards for automotive technology as well. The vehicle incorporates a new Drive Mode Selector that allows you to choose between four driving modes, including Snow/Ice, Tour, Sport, and – available only on SS models – Track settings! Camaro drivers will also enjoy 24 different ambient lighting options for their dashboard, door panels, and center console, as well as adjustable HD color displays, creating a powerful and relaxing experience.

The sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro commands attention in performance and technology, but what really catches your eye is the car’s sleek, sculpted design. Like an athlete, it has the right body to support its performance abilities. After 350 hours of wind tunnel testing, 2016 Camaro achieved the perfect aerodynamic shape to reduce drag on LT models and improve downforce on the SS. Of course there’s still room to add your personal touch with 10 exterior colors, five interior color combinations, lighting options and a number of accessories including wheels and stripes packages.

The 2016 Chevy Camaro will be unsurpassable when it hits the road, and it’s already setting new standards for cars of its kind. If you can’t wait to get behind the wheel of a vehicle that offers performance and style like this, stop by our Flushing Area Chevy Dealership!
