Cooling System Inspection and Service | Certified Auto Service and Maintenance Near Fenton

Your vehicle’s cooling system plays a very important part in how your vehicle’s engine functions. Your regulator (part of your cooling system) is what regulates the amount of heat in the engine. If it gets too cold, it emits more pollutants and causes engine components to wear out quickly. On the other hand, if it is too hot, the engine can overheat and sustain serious damage.

How often should I have my engine coolant changed?

  • Every 24,000 miles, every two years, or as recommended by your Vehicle Owner’s Manual.

Engine coolant (also known as antifreeze) keeps your engine from overheating in the summer and freezing in the winter. It is able to do this because it is a mixture of ethylene glycol and water. This combination raises the boiling point and lowers the freezing point. Corrosion inhibitors in the mixture help protect the metallic cooling system components as well.

Your cooling system components include:

  • Heater core
  • Heater blower motor
  • Radiator hoses
  • Radiator
  • Thermostat
  • Coolant expansion tank
  • Cooling fan assembly
  • Cooling fan motor
  • Water pump

To protect these components, we recommend changing your traditional coolant every 24,000 miles or every two years. However, other coolants are designed to last longer. To see the exact coolant flush schedule for your vehicle, refer to the Vehicle Owner’s Manual or give our Service Center a call.
